Nature Mirrored in Silk by Margaret Agner

From March 13 through April 18, 2026, MAGallery invites you to immerse yourself in the fluid, symmetrical world of Nature Mirrored in Silk, a solo exhibition by acclaimed Athens artist Margaret Agner. This evocative installation of hand-painted silk wall hangings represents the culmination of a 50-year career, tracing Agner’s evolution from early batiks to her modern mastery of fiber-reactive dyes and her signature "shaped edge" technique.

Each piece in the collection explores the intricate interplay between nature and design through mirror-image compositions. These works range from serene naturalistic beauty to complex, abstract arrangements where the viewer might discover hidden faces or unexpected creatures emerging from the delicate folds of silk. By compiling imagery in this way, Agner creates a visual experience where the final installation becomes something far greater than the sum of its parts.

The exhibition kicks off with an Opening Reception on Friday, March 13, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This celebratory evening, generously sponsored by William and Debi Lamb, will feature seasonal catering by Harvest & Honey and live musical performances by Terry & Jami Brailey. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet the artist and experience how her latest works create a visual world far greater than the sum of its parts.

We invite you to experience this unique intersection of fine art and textile mastery at 125 W. Jefferson Street in Madison. The exhibition is free and open to the public during gallery hours, Monday through Saturday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Whether you are a seasoned collector or a lover of local craft, this exhibition offers a unique opportunity to experience the work of a master silk painter whose career spans over five decades.
